Nathaniel Mather
Nathaniel was born in Sacramento,
California. Raised in the Southern California region, Nate met
and married his wife of 24 years, Peggy, while she was attending
UCLA. They have three daughters, Grace (18), Trinity (14) and
Hope (8). Nate and his family live in the Nashville Tennessee
area.
During
high school, Nathaniel worked as a professional musician, playing
drums in Los Angeles. Feeling the urge to be more expressive,
he began to paint and found painting to be a greatly satisfying
outlet. He decided to enroll in art school. After a
short while at the Art Center College of Design he became
disillusioned and left school. “I was disappointed by the
lack of artistic freedom in the classroom. The professors were
more concerned with the rules of art, not the essence or the life of
a painting. I was discouraged with the art world as a
whole.”
Nate
started a career in golf management and became a General Manager/COO
in the private club industry. He did not paint for seven
years.
His
rebirth into the art world came after a bout with depression.
He started to paint a daily journal to deal with the pressures and
conflicts of life. “I was trying to figure out who I was,
what role did God have in my creative world and what really matters
in life. Painting became an important part of my daily life
and a great tool for me to answer those questions.”
Today
Nathaniel’s work still reflects that intimate and personal style
developed through those trials. |
